I have received your despatch No. 180 of the 25th ult., enclosing application for increase of salary from Mr. Alves, 2nd clerk in the Colonial Secretary's office.

I am glad to have such a favorable report on Mr. Alves' character and abilities, and I have much pleasure in sanctioning a personal increase to his salary of $250 per annum.
